We bombed our glorious moon today

Sometimes I wonder who we think we are - and when I say "we," what I really mean is "our country." I'd like to remove myself from the "we" category for this blog, because I was definitely not in favor of bombing the moon.

We seem to think that anything is fair game. If we can bomb countries, why not the moon? I wonder what the moon did to deserve this bombing. It might have contained water? I suppose in the grand scheme of things, since we don't take very good care of our own resources, our own earth, it stands to reason that we might not take very good care of the moon, either.

We will surely run out of resources one day, and perhaps we'll be transplanted to another planet, or an orbiting giant base. Oh, I do understand the need to explore other resources, but perhaps we should have waited until after December 2012 - aren't we all supposed to come to a treacherous end at that time?

I wonder what we did to our karma this morning. Surely countries have some form of cosmic karma, right? Though there was no visible plume from the bombing, were there hidden fissures that might come back to haunt the poor moon in the future? Will we one day ask our children, "Do you remember when the moon looked round?" And will it be our fault that it is forever changed?

I'm glad I watched the City of Ember with my children the other night. Perhaps now we can all take a step back and become a little more green. I sure hope so.

Thanks for reading my two cents.
