Screenplay and queries

Today two great things happened today. I received my first rejection based on having too many agents interested in my manuscript, The Knowing--too much competition for the agent. That's a first! I thought authors were supposed to be the ones who shied away from competition. How funny is that? Ah, well, spin it positive--take it as a compliment! The second great thing that happened was that the screenplay adaptation of Megan's Way was submitted for consideration. It's a nerve wracking feeling to send your work (and along with it, your hopes) out into the world. It's a feeling that writers get used to, though, as we query agents with our manuscripts, publishers with our proposals, and even as we send our books out into the world for millions of people to read and enjoy, or criticize. I've said before that writing a book is like standing naked on a street corner--you never know if you are going to be pelted with tomatoes or whistled at. Here's hoping for whistles!
